General Introduction to Ship Repair at Dung Quat Port
Dung Quat Port serves a large refinery and steel complex. That means two main ship types call here: tankers (for crude oil and products) and bulk carriers (for iron ore, coal, clinker, and steel raw materials). Work at this port must respect strict safety rules, tight cargo schedules, and heavy industrial traffic.
Vietnam Shiprepair Co. works as a mobile shipyard at Dung Quat. We can board your vessel at the jetty or at anchorage. We coordinate access with your agent/terminal, plan quickly with the Master and Chief Engineer, and deliver safe work that meets Class and site requirements. Our welders are IACS Class-approved (WPS/WPQ). Our procedures follow the practice used by ABS, LR, DNV, ClassNK, BV, RINA, and VR. We also provide NDT (UT/MPI/DPT), electrical tests (IR/PI/surge), pressure tests, load tests, and ultrasonic hatch tests with a signed report pack.
Why this matters: Safety rules are strict, and delays are costly. We design work steps that fit your CCR (Cargo Control Room) plan and terminal windows.
Inert Gas System (IGS): blower overhauls, seal pot checks, deck water seal service, O₂ analyzer repair, alarm/test records.
Cargo pumps and lines: electric/hydraulic cargo pumps inspection and repair; stripping pumps; pressure tests; leakage control at flanges and valves.
P/V valves and gauging: service of P/V valves, deck pressure/vacuum lines, radar/ullage gauging sensors, overfill alarms.
EX-proof equipment: inspection of flame paths, glands, and earthing/ bonding; replacement of damaged EX d/ e components with correct certification.
Gas-free & hot work: we work only with valid gas-free certificates and live readings; no hot work without permits.
Tank cleaning support: portable gear, slop handling coordination, manhole safety control (with terminal rules).
Result: Repairs that satisfy terminal checks and protect your schedule.

B) Bulker-Focused Services (steel and power cargoes)
Why this matters: Iron ore and coal are harsh on steel and hatch gear. Dust and abrasion increase wear and leaks.
Hatch covers and coamings: packing renewal, cleat and wedge set-up, drain cleaning; ultrasonic tightness test to prove weather-tightness.
Deck cranes and grabs: brake relining, seal kits, bearing renewal, wire rope checks; static/dynamic load tests using calibrated water bags.
Catwalks, bulwarks, and deck plates: steel renewal and coating touch-ups; safe access maintained during cargo.
Vent/air pipes: clearing blockages; new screens; noise/pressure drop improvements.
Hold cleaning: high-pressure wash, dust and scale removal; odor treatment if needed.
C) Electrical Power, Generators, and Motor Rewinding (our key strength)
Why this matters at Dung Quat: Dust and salt attack insulation and contacts. The first signs are hot spots, trips, and unstable voltage.
Motor rewinding (quấn lại động cơ điện): We rewind motors for cargo cranes, mooring winches, windlass, hatch drives, pumps, and fans. Steps:
Open and check the core and nameplate.
Remove burnt/aged windings.
Rewind with the correct wire class and slot insulation.
Varnish impregnation + oven bake for strength and insulation.
New bearings, shaft polish, and coupling alignment.
Tests: IR, PI, surge test, and no-load run. Outcome: Lower temperature rise, correct torque, stable insulation. We hand over a test sheet.
Generators/alternators and AVR: Clean stator/rotor, verify insulation class, change bearings, balance rotor if needed, service slip rings/brushes, and tune AVR. We check parallel load sharing and stop “voltage hunting.” No-load and load trials are done where safe.
Switchboards/MCCs: Dust-safe cleaning; busbar de-oxidation; torque check on terminals; replace tired contactors/relays; improve ventilation. We renew and label cables; as-built drawings are updated.
Propeller: no nicks ≥ 2 mm; smooth finish; sea trial shows no imbalance.
Coating: cleaning does not damage paint; anodes checked; photos/videos attached.

Case Files (realistic, short, Dung Quat-specific)
Case 1 — Tanker cargo pump trips at berth Symptom: Trip during start; hot smell from motor bay. Action: Gas-free certificate checked; we cleaned EX bay, checked insulation (IR/PI), found low insulation from salt/dust. We dried and insulated for a safe temporary run, finished cargo at reduced rate, then did a full rewind ashore (varnish baked). Result: Safe completion, stable motor after rewind, test sheet attached.
Case 2 — Bulker hatch leaks in heavy rain Symptom: Water tracks near cross-joints. Action: Renewed packings, set cleats and wedges, cleaned drains, and then did an ultrasonic tightness test. Result: Readings within limits; no further leaks; certificate issued.
Case 3 — SW overboard valve badly corroded Symptom: Weeping flange and thinning pipe wall. Action: Fitted a temporary plug, replaced valve and spool, and did a hydro test. Result: No leaks; thickness chart updated; photos in handover pack.
Safety and Clean Work
Permits: hot-work permits, LOTO for electrical work, and gas tests for confined spaces.
Refinery rules: we respect all terminal instructions; no hot work without gas-free and permits.
Housekeeping: barriers, debris control, dust covers, and end-of-shift clean-downs.
Waste/spills: handled under terminal rules, with records.
What You Receive After the Job
Checklist of work done.
Test sheets (IR/PI/surge, hydro, ultrasonic, load), plus photos/videos.
Certificates (LSA/FFA annuals, crane load tests) when requested.
Spares traceability (brand/model/SN).
Updated as-built drawings/cable tags if changed.
Written warranty matched to job type.
AQs (short answers for quick reading)
Can you work at the refinery jetty and at anchorage? Yes. We do both, based on access and your time plan.
How fast can you rewind a motor? It depends on size and condition. We often deliver a safe temporary run so you finish cargo, then complete the full rewind.
Do you provide certificates for load and hatch tests? Yes. We provide proper reports and certificates.
Can you dive if the sea is rough? We check sea state and visibility first. If unsafe, we apply a top-side temporary fix and return later.
Can you help with spares and customs? Yes. We receive, document, and deliver spares to the vessel. If OEM parts are late, we propose an approved equivalent or a staged plan.
