General Introduction to Ship Repair at Vinh Tan Port (24/7/365)
Vinh Tan Port (Tuy Phong, Binh Thuan) mainly serves the Vinh Tan power plants and a steady flow of bulk carriers with coal, clinker, and cement. These cargoes create coal dust and abrasive fines, and the area also has salt, heat, and humidity. Together they speed up wear on electrical parts, hatch covers, deck machinery, sea-water pipes, and coatings.
Vietnam Shiprepair Co. works as a mobile shipyard here. We board your vessel at the jetty or at anchorage (by boat), plan quickly with your Master and Chief Engineer, and finish the job in a way that is safe, simple, and approved by the big ship classes (ABS, LR, DNV, NK, BV, RINA, VR). Our welders are Class-approved, and our team can handle steel, engines, electrics, underwater work, and automation. We also give you clear test results and certificates so your ship can sail on time.

What We Repair and Maintain at Vinh Tan
A) Electrical Power, Generators, and Motor Rewinding
Why it matters here: Dust and salt attack insulation and contacts. If we ignore them, you get trips, hot spots, and surprise failures during loading.
Motor rewinding: We rewind motors for cargo cranes, mooring winches, windlass (anchor winch), hatch drives, and pump/fan sets. Steps are simple:
Open and check the iron core and nameplate.
Remove burnt or old windings.
Rewind with the right wire and insulation.
Soak in varnish and bake in an oven to make it strong and safe.
Fit new bearings, polish the shaft, and align the coupling.
Test: insulation resistance (IR), polarization index (PI), surge test (checks for turn-to-turn faults), and a no-load run. Result: The motor runs cooler, delivers proper torque, and passes all basic tests. We give you a test sheet to file.
Generators/alternators and AVR tuning: We clean stator and rotor (dust-safe), check insulation class, change bearings, balance the rotor if needed, service slip rings and brushes, and tune the AVR (automatic voltage regulator) so voltage is steady and two or more generators share load without “hunting.” We do no-load and load trials when it is safe to do so.
Switchboards and MCCs (main and motor control panels): We remove dust, clean and protect busbars, tighten and re-torque terminals, replace tired contactors and relays, and fix ventilation so hot spots do not return. We renew and label cables where needed and update as-built drawings.
Emergency power: We fix auto-start issues on the emergency generator, check the charger/rectifier, test the batteries, and verify the ATS (automatic transfer switch).

B) Deck, Hull, and Cargo Handling
Steel renewal for deck plates, hatch coamings (the steel frame around the hatch), bulwarks, and catwalks.
Hatch covers: new rubber packing, cleat repair and set-up, drain cleaning; then we test with an ultrasonic device to show it is weather-tight.
Cranes, windlass, and mooring winches: new brake linings, seals, and bearings; oil leaks fixed; and load tests with water bags as Class or terminal requests.
Ventilation and air pipes: clear dust and change screens so air moves as it should.
We plan deck jobs around loading so we do not block cargo operations.
C) Engine Room and Mechanical Systems
Main and auxiliary engines: cylinder head overhaul, injector and fuel pump service, valve and tappet set, bearing checks, piston and liner inspection, and alignment.
Boiler and economizer: remove scale, patch leaks, change tubes, repair refractory, and set safety valves.
Pumps and compressors: ballast, bilge, sea water, fuel oil, lube oil pumps; change seals and bearings, set clearances, and rebuild air compressors with valve kits.
Automation: fix sensors and actuators, tune the governor, and find the root cause of trips or slowdowns.
HVAC and provision plant: find gas leaks, set the expansion valve, service fans and belts, and clean heat exchangers.
Turbocharger: Overhauling, dynamic balancing
If your time is tight, we fix the main problem first so the vessel can sail, and we book the full overhaul later.

D) Pipes and Pressure Tests (sea water, fuel oil, lube oil, ballast, general service)
Sea water lines: change pitted sections using the right wall thickness and steel grade; add or fix supports if we see vibration.
Hydrostatic tests: for renewed pipe sections we normally test at 1.5 times the design pressure for at least 30 minutes. The result should show no leaks and no pressure drop beyond the gauge accuracy.
Valves: we test seats and back seats per API 598. Non-return valves are checked for proper closing.
Fuel and lube oil lines: flush to the cleanliness level your maker asks for; check strainer pressure difference.
Ballast lines: check air pipe heads and alarms, and record hydro test results.
We write down test pressures, time, tools used, and the result in your report.
E) Underwater and In-Water Work
UWILD (underwater inspection instead of drydock): photo and video of sea chests, overboard valves, bilge keels, rudder, anodes, controllable pitch hubs (if fitted), and coating.
Hull cleaning and propeller polishing: to reduce fuel burn and improve speed.
Temporary plugs: we can plug a sea chest or overboard while a valve is changed.
Rope and net removal from the propeller or shaft.
Thickness checks under water to help you plan the next drydock.
We always check sea state and visibility first. If it is not safe, we offer a top-side temporary solution and return to diving when conditions improve.

Common Job Stories at Vinh Tan
1) Crane motor trips during loading We found dust and moisture lowered the insulation. We dried the motor and boosted insulation so the crew finished loading slowly but safely. Afterward we rewound the motor in our workshop (with varnish and oven bake). The test sheet showed good IR, PI, and a steady no-load run.
2) Generator voltage “hunts” when paralleled We cleaned the AVR area, serviced slip rings and brushes, balanced the rotor, and retuned the AVR. We also fixed a loose neutral in the switchboard. After that, voltage and load sharing were stable.
3) Overboard valve is badly corroded We plugged the line safely, replaced the valve, and did a pressure test. No leaks. We updated the report with photos and valve data.
Safety and Clean Work
We use the right permits, including hot-work permits, lock-out/tag-out for electrics, and gas tests in closed spaces. We put barriers around the work area, control debris, and cover open equipment to keep out dust. At the end of each shift we clean down the area. Waste and spills are handled by terminal rules.
What You Get After the Job
You receive a close-out pack with:
A simple checklist of what we did.
Test sheets (IR/PI/surge, hydro, ultrasonic, load), photos and videos.
Certificates (LSA/FFA annuals, crane load tests) when requested.
Spare parts list (brand, model, serial number).
Updated drawings or cable tags if we changed anything.
A written warranty that matches the job type.
AQ
Can you board at the power plant jetty and at anchorage? Yes. We do both, depending on access and your time plan.
How fast can you rewind a motor? It depends on the size and condition. We often give a safe temporary fix first so you can finish cargo, then we do the full rewind.
Do you give certificates for load tests and hatch tests? Yes. We issue proper reports and certificates.
Can you dive when the sea is rough? We check sea state and visibility first. If it is unsafe, we suggest a temporary top-side solution and return to diving when it is safe.
Can you help with spare parts and customs? Yes. We can receive, document, and deliver spares to the vessel. If OEM parts are late, we suggest an approved equivalent or a staged plan.
