2/ What We Do Lifting Gear Load Test in Vietnam?
2.1. Checking and preparing:
Checking before testing
Checking for winch, brakes and gear-box, Sheaves and Blocks.
Checking for all involved equipment including pulley, wire rope, turnbuckle, shackle
Checking for supplied power, limit switches, electronic and hydraulic overload protection equipment.
Verifying safe load indicators for rated & actual load indication, radius indication and correct alarm settings.
Preparing load test equipments
Load test equipment including: Water weight bag, fire hose, water pump, load cell …etc. 2.2. Procedure Of Working Load
Step 1: Testing based on designed weight
Hanging a water weight bag into crane’s hook.
Moving crane to load test position
Pumping water into the water weight bag up to the testing weight equal 100% of crane’s designed weight (SWL) – determining the weight of water inside the water bag by load cell.
Test lifting the water bag up and down
Test braking suddenly when lifting the water bag up and down
Test rotating the crane to the right and the left
Test lifting the crane up and down
Rotating the crane back to the original position after testing.
Step 2: Testing overload: The overload weight is determined as below
Keep Crane at position as Step 1
Continue pumping water into the water weight bag up to the load test weight (determining the weight of water inside the water bag by load cell)
Braking and hanging the weight for 5-10 minutes
Checking for the crane to ensure the crane is in good working condition for using
All of the moving in the step should be carried out carefully and in very slow speed
Step 3: After testing
Discharging the water inside the water bag out and removing the water bag out of the crane’s hook
Rotating the crane to the original position and lashing it into the crane pedestal.
If required: Issue ILO 152 Form 2 and endorse the cargo gear logbook
Issue a picture report with a summary of findings and recommendations, complete with Load Test Certificate and Load Test Protocol.
